Why? Read up

The Jojo Pose project is a heartfelt invitation to do things that empower you.

The project is inspired by Judy Chicago’s monumental art installation, “The Dinner Party.”

I fell in love with the idea and its creative potential the moment I saw it. “ The Dinner Party” displays objects created or collected by Judy Chicago at a ceremonial banquet.

The Therapeutic Value of the “The Dinner Party.”

In my therapeutic work as a psychotherapist, I’ve used a presentation inspired by Judy Chicago’s work. I invite the participants to think about the individuals they might invite to “their dinner party,” which can give them a gentle emotional lift.

The participants are invited to respond to questions meant to asses their emotional life and core thoughts and beliefs and reflect on the main themes that govern their life.

Once this is done, the participants invite those inspiring individuals to help them overcome, dissolve, or reframe negative beliefs at their dinner table.

When the mind dwells on something negative, it creates conflict and entropy in consciousness.

Our mood is instantly upgraded when the mind explores possibilities and the positive things we have in our lives. Depression, anger, fear, and jealousy are all invited into the minds that create entropy. The opposite is true.

I invite participants to pose in this newest version of the dinner party.

Why:

Times keep changing, and memes keep adjusting to the current times. Most people are constantly posing, and taking selfies has become something we do. As a result, I want to build on this by inviting them to pose intentionally.

What does it mean to pose intentionally?

It means that we pose next to those who uplift, empower, love, care about, or make us laugh.

I call this intentional act of posing “finding ways to be in your POWER.”

In a way, posing next to an image, a person, or an inspiring landscape creates a sense of calm and safety; it makes you laugh or inspires you to be the best version of yourself.

What happens next?

We hope that you will send us your selfies. We’ll use the selfies to build a mural with them. We'll be creating another way of belonging to this beautiful earth, a new way to connect with yourself, with us, and ultimately with your community.

Julia Alvarez, and her book "In the Time of The Butterflies."

In her book, a Dominican-American author, Julia Alvarez, takes us on a journey into experiences that challenge our thinking about history, love, family, and much more. Julia Alvarez is also an award-winning novelist and essayist whose works include Homecoming (1984), How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents (1991), and In the Time of the Butterflies (1994), to mention a few of her works. I would sit her at my dinner table to hear what else she wanted to share.
